Whether you are applying in Accra, Kumasi or Takoradi, aim for a CV that is short, factual and easy to check. Below you will find how to present national service, your WASSCE and university results, how to handle referees, and how long the document should be.
Graduates from tertiary institutions in Ghana usually go through national service before their first job. Treat your service posting like any other role: the organisation, the town, the dates, and two or three lines on what you were trusted to do.
If you are still serving, say so and give the date your posting ends, so an employer knows when you can start. If you have finished, keep the document that proves it within reach: an employer may ask to see it later.
A posting outside your field still counts. A graduate in accounting who was posted to teach mathematics can show planning, patience and clear explanations, all of which matter in an office.
WASSCE and university results
For a first job, a line on your senior high school and your WASSCE is enough: the school, the town and the year. Leave the full list of subjects and grades for application forms that ask for it.
At university level, write the programme as it appears on your transcript, for example “BA Communication Studies”, then the classification if you have one, such as Second Class Upper Division. Put the institution in full, then its abbreviation in brackets, the way the editor suggests it.
A diploma from a technical university or a professional qualification has its own line, with the awarding body named exactly. As your experience grows, move Education below Work experience; PixeCV lets you change the order of sections.
Choosing your referees
Employers in Ghana may ask for referees, and the end of the CV is the natural place for them. Pick people who have seen you work or study closely, such as a supervisor from your national service, a lecturer who marked your project, or a manager from a past role, and check with each of them first.
Write each referee’s full name, position, organisation, phone number with the country code and email address. PixeCV has no fixed referees block, so create one under Other sections and give it the title you prefer.
How long should it be?
Aim for one page if you are a recent graduate, and two at most once you have several roles to show. A longer document rarely adds anything a reader will remember; cut older or less relevant lines first.
PixeCV shows how your content fills the A4 page as you type, and offers to fit it onto a set number of pages. If it still runs over, shorten your profile and remove the bullets that repeat each other.
Keep your languages honest and brief. English is the official language; Twi, Ewe, Ga or Dagbani are worth listing with a level if you speak them well, especially for roles that deal with the public.

Frequently asked questions
Should national service go under experience?
Yes. Present it as a role, with the organisation, the dates and what you did. It can be the first real work experience on a graduate CV.
Do I need to list every WASSCE grade?
No. Name the school, the examination and the year; give the detailed grades only when a form asks for them.
How many referees should I give?
Give enough to cover your recent study and work, and only people who have agreed. Each one needs a name, position, organisation and contact details.
How do I send my CV from my phone?
Send it as a PDF, name the file after yourself, and attach it to an email with the role in the subject line. PixeCV works in your phone’s browser, so you can write and preview your CV there too.
